Career Exploration Planning Did You Know? Not all programs require the development of a career plan So, which workforce programs require the creation of a career plan? Youth who are engaged in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program are required to have an Individual Service Strategy or ISS Customers engaged in the Welfare Transition (WT) program are

required to have an Individual Responsibility Plan or IRP Customers engaged in the Reemployment and Eligibility Assessment (REA) program must have a career plan developed that outlines the customers strengths, weaknesses, and action steps to get a job Career Plan Why is the career plan such an important document? Think of the plan as

a road map to success Career Plan The career plan is designed with the customer and is based on the customers assessment results and the results of career exploration The career plan outlines What the customer ultimately wants to achieve The steps the customer needs to take to reach those goals

Career Plan The career plan is not just another form to be filed away Follow-up is an important part of the process Customers must be able to hold themselves accountable for successes and failures Customers must be accountable to program staff for successes and failures Main Components Depending on the program, there are different components of the career plan

There are some components that are consistent regardless of which program the customer is enrolled in Basic demographic information Start date of the career plan Immediate employment goals Long-term employment goals Action steps Timelines Signature/dates of signature Writing Goals Help your customers
