Circuits Vocabulary

Circuit a path that electricity can flow
through

Current the movement of electric charges
through a material

Conductor a substance through which
electricity can flow through easily. Ex
metal spoon

Insulator a substance through which
electricity can not flow. Ex -- Rubber Tire

Resistance When a material resists
energy passing through it, usually heat and
light are produced.

Open Circuit An incomplete path where
electricity can not flow. Ex OFF switch

Closed Circuit A complete path where
electricity can flow. Ex ON switch

Parallel Circuit an electric circuit with multiple
paths through which current can flow. ExHousehold Circuit

Series Circuit an electric circuit in which all the
working parts are one path. Ex Holiday Lights
