start You are working on your school yearbook. Each page will have 24 student photos. The photos will be arranged in a rectangular display with the same number of photos in each row. How many ways can you arrange the photos so

that there are no more than 10 photos in any row or column? What is a factor? Any whole number that can be

divided evenly into another number 1, 2, 3, and 6 are factors of 6

What is a prime number? A whole number greater than 1 whose only positive factors are 1 and itself

2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17 What is a composite number? A whole number

greater than 1 that has positive factors other than 1 and itself 4, 12, 20, 36

What about 1? 1 is NEITHER a prime nor a composite number.

Write all the factors and tell if its prime or composite. What is prime factorization? When you write a

whole number as the product of prime numbers One way to find the prime factorization of a number

is to use a factor tree. What is a factor tree? A diagram showing all the prime factors

of a number How do you write the prime factorization of numbers? You will use a factor tree to help you. Start

with two factors of the number and continue factoring the numbers until you have only prime numbers. Once factored, you will write the number as a product of its prime factors.

Write the prime factorization of 24 Write the prime factorization of 56

Write the prime factorization of 420 What is a monomial? A number, a variable, or a product of a number and

one or more variables. 4 How do you factor a monomial?

Write the monomial as a product of prime numbers and variables with exponents of 1 Factor the monomial

Factor the monomial Factor the monomial Factor the monomial

What is a fraction? A ratio comparing two numbers

a is called the numerator b is called the denominator What are equivalent fractions?

4 2 = 6 3

Fractions representing the same number. They have the same simplest form.

How do you write equivalent fractions? Multiply or divide the numerator and denominator by the same nonzero number.

Write two fractions that are equivalent to What is simplest form? If the numerator and denominator have 1 as their

greatest common factor 3 7

How do you simplify fractions? Write the prime factorization of the numerator and denominator. Divide out the common factor(s). Simplify.

Write the fraction in simplest form Write the fraction in simplest form

How do you simplify variable expressions? Factor the numerator and denominator. Divide out common factors. Simplify.
