Carpentry and Joinery Motor vehicle engineering Interior Design GCSE FOOD PREPARATION AND NUTRITION QUOTES FROM CURRENT YEAR 10 STUDENTS : ITS MORE SCIENTIFIC THAN I THOUGHT BUT IT IS FUN. THE TESTS ARE DIFFICULT. YOU LEAVE YOUR LESSON HUNGRY AND GO HOME AND COOK.

IT IS WORTHWHILE FOR THE FUTURE TO BE ABLE TO COOK AT UNIVERSITY ETC. HONESTLY FOOD IS THE ONLY SUBJECT THAT I HAVENT HEARD ANY STUDENTS COMPLAINING ABOUT AND WISHED THEY HADNT TAKEN. ITS EXTREMELY STRESSFUL WHEN MAKING TWO PRODUCTS AND YOU CAN RUN OUT OF TIME. DONT TAKE YEAR 10 FOR GRANTED, MAKE DETAILED NOTES AND REVISE THOROUGHLY. QUOTES FROM CURRENT YEAR 11 STUDENTS : THERE IS MORE THEORY THAN YOU THINK, IT IS NOT JUST COOKING. I HAVE LEARNT QUITE A LOT FROM IT. CHALLENGING.

IT IS A FUN WAY OF LEARNING, NOT JUST SITTING DOING EQUATIONS. THEORY IS SIMILAR TO BIOLOGY. I LIKE THE THEORY WORK, THE CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT WORK IS TIME CONSUMING. ITS GOOD BECAUSE THE ASSESSMENT IS 50% CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT AND 50% EXAM. WE WILL COOK EVERY OTHER WEEK. YEAR 10 SEPT- DEC 1 PRODUCT YEAR 10 JAN JULY 2 PRODUCTS WITH INCREASINGLY COMPLEX SKILL LEVELS.

There are 2 units 1 2 Controlled assessment 50% Written Exam 1:45hr 50%

(Coursework) with a focus on research and nutrition Covering everything in unit 1 Both are completed in Year 11 Unit 1

Controlled Assessment Coursework. Both tasks are worth 50% together. Task one is worth 15%. Task two is worth 35%. Task 1 is done in Year 11- experimental work Task 2 is done in Year 11- 3 hour practical, 3 complex dishes. Example of coursework TRIALLING DISHES

EXAMPLE OF TASK 2 ITALIAN PANNA COTTA & STRAWBERRIES 3 WAYS Italian Cannelloni Greek Filo & Feta Pie New York Style Burger and Chips

UNIT 2 EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT EXAMS. THE EXAM IS WORTH 50% UNIT 2 IS A 1:45HR EXAM TAKEN IN YR11 EVERYONE TAKES THE SAME EXAM PAPERS, THERE ARE NO TIERS. EVERY QUESTION STARTS EASY AND GETS PROGRESSIVELY HARDER. UNIT 2 EXAM PAPER 1 HRS WHEN NOT DOING

COURSEWORK, YOU LEARN THE THEORY. You are taught different topics every half term in single lessons, and find your own recipe and cook it to show the skills you learnt. E.g. You learn all about fat in the diet, and then find a recipe for a meal that has less than 5% fat per serving; and prove it by using a Nutrition Program. You are also taught various practical skills i.e. Pastry, sauces, bread, icing, cakes, meringue etc. CAREERS USING FOOD.

CHEFING HOSPITALITY A REPORT AT THE END OF 2016 BY THE RECRUITMENT AND EMPLOYMENT FEDERATION (REF) DISCOVERED THAT 89% OF RECRUITMENT AGENCIES HAD REPORTED AN INCREASE IN THE DEMAND FOR CHEFS IN THE LAST THREE YEARS DUE TO A LACK OF SKILLED TRAINED TALENT. COOKING IS FUN AND REQUIRES WORKING UNDER PRESSURE PLUS PROBLEM SOLVING.

IT LINKS ALL YOUR SUBJECTS TOGETHER. CAREERS USING FOOD. TEACHING. NUTRITIONIST. SUPERMARKETS, BUYER, PRODUCT DEVELOPER. MAGAZINES, HOME ECONOMIST. HOSPITAL DIETICIAN. CONSUMER ORGANISATIONS. T.V. FOOD PROGRAMMES. (HERE IS ONE I MADE EARLIER!)

MAKE HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. QUESTIONS ?
