UNIT II PHASE CONTROLLED CONVERTERS

Phase controlled converters Rectification is a process of converting alternating current or

voltage into a direct current or voltage. Diodes, Thyristors, Power transistors, Power MOSFETS are

widely used for this process Rectifier circuits are classified into 3 types

Uncontrolled rectifiers Only diodes are used & the DC o/p voltage is fixed

Half controlled rectifiers Contains a mixture of diodes & thyristors allowing a limited

control over the DC o/p voltage.

Fully controlled rectifiers Uses thyristors as rectifying elements & the DC o/p voltage is

controllable. 1 half wave controlled converter
