Tertiary Studies Expo - this weekend Attend Parent Session Two Monday 29th July Read students notes in diary Talk with your child about best fit for them. Challenging Minds, Nurturing Hearts, Building Futures Subject Selection Year 11 2020 Terminology New QCE Up to 2019 QCE stands for Queensland Certificate of Education.. a piece of paper. From 2020 QCE stands for Queensland Certificate of Education..the system Queensland uses for Senior Assessment.

The piece of paper will still exist. QCAA will be responsible for the QCE. QTAC will be responsible for the ATAR calculation. A.T.A.R Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank. Nationally recognised tertiary admissions score. Challenging Minds, Nurturing Hearts, Building Futures Key changes with the new QCE The two years of study are divided into four units. Unit 1 and 2 SPLC will cover this work in T1, T2 & T3 Year 11 Unit 3 and 4 SPLC will cover this work in T4 Year 11, T1, T2 & T3 Year 12. Term 4 Year 12 will be revision and external examinations. Unit 1 and 2 Each unit objective must be assessed at least once. SPLC will develop 2 - 4 assessment items per subject. All formative assessment. Unit 3 and 4 4 pieces of assessment per subject. All summative assessment. 3 x internal Changing subjects not possible after Term 3 1 x external Year 11. Changing subjects after Term 1 Year 11 undesirable

Syllabus documents are detailed and prescriptive. External assessment will NOT scale internal assessment. This is a major difference between current and future systems. Challenging Minds, Nurturing Hearts, Building Futures Key changes with the new QCE Students will receive from Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority ( QCAA) At the end of Year 12 and after completing Units 3 & 4. A result out of 100 for each subject studied. Calculated using the following method. Students will also receive an A- E grade. Not Maths or Science Internal assessment 1 - Internal assessment 1 Internal assessment 2 -

75 TOTAL - Internal assessment 2 - 50 Internal assessment 3 - Internal assessment 3 External assessment - Maths or Science External assessment - 25 out of 100 TOTAL - 50 out of 100

Challenging Minds, Nurturing Hearts, Building Futures Key changes with the new QCE Students will receive from Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) An A.T.A.R Australian Tertiary Admission Rank. A students ATAR will be based on: A students best five General subject results, or, A combination of four General subject results, plus an Applied or VET subject result. There will be some type of subject scaling used when calculating the ATAR. Scaling is dependent on state wide subject results only known after all results for all subjects are collated. Current OP system we have data trends available to help guide students in relation to scaling. This will not be the case for 2020/21. Students must choose subjects they enjoy, find interesting and achieve well in. Challenging Minds, Nurturing Hearts, Building Futures Key changes with the new QCE External Assessment 50% of the final grade for Maths and Science subjects. 25% of the final grade for all other subjects.

16 days in Term 4 Year 12 will be used as a State wide exam block. Each syllabus uses a common language called COGNITIVE VERBS. There are 75 Cognitive Verbs. The definition is consistent across all subjects; however, not all cognitive verbs are relevant to all subjects. Similarities between Cognitive Verbs and current CCEs. Example Cognitive Verbs and definitions Challenging Minds, Nurturing Hearts, Building Futures Key changes with the new QCE Subjects in 2020 QCAA Subjects at SPLC will be grouped into three categories: General similar to the OP eligible subjects pre 2020. Applied similar to the OP ineligible subjects pre 2020. Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certificate courses. To be ATAR eligible, students must do a minimum of 4 x General subjects + 1 x Applied or VET (Cert III or Cert IV). Students must achieve an SA in an English subject. St Peters students will study 6 subjects (+ Religion and Ethics) in Year 11 allowing for a safety net until students are more comfortable with their subject selections. Challenging Minds, Nurturing Hearts, Building Futures
