Law & Grace OUR PURPOSE, AIM AND OBJECTIVE is to Compare and Contrast Law and Grace so as to properly understand these two important themes and how they are related to the life of the New Testament Believer. C. I. SCOFIELD, D. D.

The Grace of God, The Fundamentals Vol. 3, Chapter VII, p. 98 We have, most of us, been reared and now live under the influence of Galatianism. Protestant theology, alas, is for the most part, thoroughly Galatianized, in that neither law nor grace are given their distinct and separated places, as in the counsels of God, but are mingled together in one incoherent system. The law is no longer, as in the Divine intent, a ministration of death (2 Cor. 3:7), of cursing (Gal. 3:10), of conviction (Rom. 3:19), because we are taught that we must try to keep it, and that by Divine help we may.

Nor, on the other hand, does grace bring us blessed deliverance from the dominion of sin, for we are kept under the law as a rule of life despite the plain declaration, Sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace (Rom. 6:14). (emphasis mine) William R. Newell Romans Verse-by-Verse (p. 274). Grand Rapids, MI: Christian Classics Ethereal Library. It is because Reformed theology has kept us

Gentiles under the Law,if not as a means of righteousness, then as a rule of life, that all the trouble has arisen. The Law is no more a rule of life than it is a means of righteousness. Walking in the Spirit has now taken the place of walking by ordinances. God has another principle under which He has put his saints: Ye are not under law, but, under grace! Law & Grace: Lesson 14 Breaking & Entering Passing the Baton Deuteronomy > Joshua In our last session we had our last look at the life and writings of Moses in this Law and Grace series. Those writings of Moses gave 613 individual laws of the Law of Moses.

Law & Grace: Lesson 14 Breaking & Entering Passing the Baton Deuteronomy > Joshua As we turn from Deuteronomy to the book of Joshua, Moses has passed the leadership of the people of Israel onto Joshua, who will lead them into the promised land.

Deuteronomy 20:1-4 "When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you. 2 When you are approaching the battle, the priest shall come near and speak to the people. 3 He shall say to them, 'Hear, O Israel, you are approaching the battle against your enemies today. Do not be fainthearted. Do not be afraid, or panic, or tremble before them, 4 for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you,

to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.'" 1 Deuteronomy 20:1-4 "When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you. 2 When you are approaching the battle, the priest shall come near and speak to the people. 3 He shall say to them, 'Hear, O Israel, you are approaching the battle against your enemies today. Do not be

fainthearted. Do not be afraid, or panic, or tremble before them, 4 for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.'" 1 Deuteronomy 31:6-7 "Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you." 7 Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land

which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance. (cf. Deu.31:23; Joshua 1:6, 7, 9, 18; 10:25.) 6 Law & Grace: Lesson 14 Breaking & Entering Theres only one problem Joshua The one problem is that

there are other people in the land where God wants them to go and God wants them to take out or drive out the inhabitants of the land of Canaan. Exodus 23:2930 I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the

field become too numerous for you. 30 I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land. 29 Deuteronomy 7:22 22 The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly, for the wild beasts would grow too numerous for you.

Under the Law of Moses and Principle of Law Joshua As the Children of Israel entered the promised land they were living under the entire Law of Moses. They were also living under a principle of law which specifically governed such

things as how they would do battle, what to destroy and keep. Law & Grace: Lesson 14 Breaking & Entering Under the Law of Moses and Principle of Law Joshua Under the principle of Law, failing to follow the specific orders from God for the battle meant both defeat and

potentially, death. Joshua 1:16-18 They answered Joshua, saying, All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. 17 Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you; only may the LORD your God be with you as He was with Moses. 18 Anyone who rebels against your command and does not obey your words in all that you command him, shall be put to death; only be strong and courageous. 16

Joshua 6:1-5 Now Jericho was tightly shut because of the sons of Israel; no one went out and no one came in. 2 The LORD said to Joshua, See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the valiant warriors. 3 You shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days. 4 Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams horns before the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 It shall be that when they make a long blast with the rams horn, and when

you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people will go up every man straight ahead. 1 Law & Grace: Lesson 14 Breaking & Entering Did Joshua gain the upper hand through a study of Military Strategy? They were to burn the city, even with its freshly harvested grain and other crops. But Rahab alone was kept alive because she had helped Israels spies.

Law & Grace: Lesson 14 Breaking & Entering What was so special about Rahab? Joshua 2 & 6 Rahab the harlot had sheltered and protected the two Israelite spies who had come to check out the city of Jericho.

Law & Grace: Lesson 14 Breaking & Entering What was so special about Rahab? Joshua 2 & 6 Reminiscent of letting Paul down the city wall in a basket, Rahab let the two Israelites spies down the city wall. So, Rahab & her fathers household were spared that day.

But we in the Body of Christ But we in the Body of Christ do not live under any mixture of Law and Grace. We live under pure, pristine, uncontaminated GRACE! Romans 5:15,17 But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace

of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. 15 Romans 5:20-21 The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so

grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 20 Law & Grace: An Overview Jim McGowan, Th.D. Sugar Land Bible Church 11-04-2018 For the Law was given through Moses
